Overview
On July 23, 2017, a new distracted driving law, the Driving Under the Influence of Electronics (E-DUI) Act went into effect. The WTSC took on the task of developing an education campaign designed to reach all Washington drivers. The campaign applied the process of transcreation to reach groups across different cultures and languages and was translated into five languages: Spanish, Chinese (simplified and traditional), Vietnamese, Russian, and Korean. The tagline for the campaign was, “On the Road, Off the Phone. It’s the Law.”
The educational campaign kicked off with a media event on the Legislative Building steps with Governor Jay Inslee, Washington State Patrol Chief John R. Batiste, WTSC Director Darrin Grondel, and victims’ families as speakers. The campaign ran throughout the summer of 2017.
